Moerlein Brewing Company is Cincinnati, Ohio’s soon to be biggest Craft brewery. Bavarian born Christian Moerlein founded his brewing company in 1853 in the Over-the-Rhine German neighborhood of Cincinnati. The brewery grained popularity and was a well-known beer until it had to close its doors during prohibition. It then re-opened in 1981 when the American craft beer movement was in its infancy and became the first American beer to certifiably pass the strict Reinheitsgebot German Purity Law of 1516. with its beer containing only malted barley, hops, water and yeast.
